Family Low Level Walks (half or full day)

Many people come to the Lake District and Eden Valley for hill walking, but if you are not keen to head up on to the higher mountains, then why not explore the many beautiful valley, lake shore and woodland paths? Find out about the myths and legends and the famous visitors who have also spent time in these wonderful places. Combine your walk with time on Ullswater or Derwentwater either in a canoe or on the launch, or perhaps with a steam train ride from Alston, Eskdale or Lakeside, to make it a day to remember!  If you want to go somewhere completely different then you could even combine a family walk and a visit to a Roman fort on Hadrian’s Wall!

Family Ghyll Scramble

Half Day Family Ghyll Scramble

Do you want to have family fun and get wet? Then our half day ghyll scramble is what you are looking for! Explore a mountain stream by climbing up it or walking, sliding and jumping down it. This is suitable for all the family as long as you do not mind getting wet and enjoy a challenge. We can choose the best ghyll for you depending on ages, fitness and how wet you all want to get! We will give you a wetsuit to help keep you warm, as well as safety equipment and your own instructor to make it a fun and safe trip.

Someone not so keen to give it a go?  Not a problem as many of the ghylls allow people to walk up the side and watch and take pictures of the action. Why not combine the day with rock climbing or canoe rafting in the morning to make it a day of adventure? We can also suggest great things to do on your own in the area before or after your ghyll scramble.

Grade:

Some ghylls can involve an uphill walk of 10 – 15 mins to reach them. Time is spent in the water so confidence in the water is useful. This activity can be suitable for non-swimmers but please let us know so we can arrange extra safety equipment and suggest a suitable ghyll.
